Oh, the circle of history... Fifteen years ago I was implementing IPSec using FreeS/WAN. Later it got obsoleted, so I switched to ipsec-tools (racoon and setkey). Then I played with racoon2 for a short time.
Around Fedora 13 – 14 ipsec-tools went into disgrace. What's the current recommendation? It turns out we are supposed to be using libreswan, which is a fork of openswan, which got forked from... FreeS/WAN.
